About Power Yoga & Lyn's Classes
What you do on your mat should help you with what you do off your mat –
otherwise, why do it?
Power Yoga is the practice of presence and mindfulness. By applying breath and slow, deliberate movements you are able to listen to your inner guru as opposed to your inner ego.
LK Power Yoga is a breath guided, vinyasa (flowing) style, meditative practice.
Presence, grounding and focus are the three foundational elements that the practice is built upon. Along with intelligent sequencing, that is developed to be user-friendly.
(In other words, nothing crazy. If you can breathe, you can practice power yoga.)
If you are looking for a fast, flowing class that focuses only on the physical component of a yoga practice, and uses music as a distraction, that is typical for today's trendy vinyasa classes - these classes are not for you - and I encourage you to read about what Power Yoga really is.
Classes are designed for all levels. No yoga experience is necessary.
You decide what feels right for your Sometimes the greatest challenge is just getting out of your head. Being ok right where you are in the practice and not trying to compete with anyone else – even with yourself!
It is important to remember to always practice at your personal comfort level.
Be sure to rest as needed. No pose or movement is required, everything is negotiable (except for your breath!).
If you are new to the practice, please ease into it.
All recordings are of live classes - whether in-studio or via Zoom. So please keep in mind these are not 'professional' recordings, and sometimes a little bit raw as far as quality goes. They do, however, offer the feeling of being in the actual studio and in a group class.
You will notice that I do not 'teach from the mat'. During live classes I like to move through the room and be present with my students so I can observe everyone and assist as needed. This also encourages a more meditative, focused practice.
My intent is to be as precise and specific as possible when cueing movements, poses, and alignment. Keep in mind, since I am teaching to a live class, my cues will be based on the needs of the individuals of that class - some classes might have more detailed directions than others. If you are new to yoga in general or new to this style of teaching, or just to me, I encourage you to take your time with each class as you get used to and adjust to the practice. Give yourself time to process my verbal directions. If needed, you can always peek at the screen or pause the video. I can't stress this enough - you do not have to do everything that is offered. Choose what you feel is right for you at the moment. Skip what you need.
Remember that yoga is meant to be process focused and not a quick fix, or goal oriented. Try to appreciate the practice for the process, and embrace where you are at in that process. When you step on your mat it is an opportunity to slow down, mentally and physically. No matter what on-demand class recording you are practicing to, it is important to always take control and take breaks as needed - whether it be to breathe in child's pose or another pose that you find more grounding and comfortable. IT IS YOUR PRACTICE.
