PROGRAM CURICULLUM
TECHNIQUES, METHODOLOGY & ANATOMY MODULE
The three courses in this module are designed to build on and support each other.
Advanced Anatomy for Yoga - 15-Hour Online Course
This is David Keil's anatomy course developed specifically for 300-hour yoga trainings. We'll use that foundation to follow the anatomy through the process of building asanas. We'll deconstruct seemingly complex asanas and look at their parts and pieces through the lens of anatomy. This course will provide you with information and tools to understand why you might be observing a particular pattern in your student's practice. At the completion of this course, you'll have a better understanding of how to help your students build the patterns they need to evolve their postures in a healthy way.
This course includes: video tutorials, reading assignments, online quizzes, study guide questions and exploration exercises
Developing a Teacher's Eye - Observing & Understanding Common Imbalances
This course will include:
Working with Common Imbalances-
-study of causes and muscles involved in common muscular imbalances found in the body that occur from normal day to day activities or due to prior injuries
-learn poses and movements to address specific imbalances
Comparative Anatomy Online Tutorial with Paul Grilley

-the difference between tension and compression

-learn a sequence specific for assessing students
This course includes: reading and written assignments, video tutorials; you will be required to lead one student (of your choice) through the assessment sequence included in the course and submit your notes and observances
The Art of Teaching Simple to Complex Poses in a Power Vinyasa Class
-learn how to include more complex poses in a vinyasa style class without breaking the flow and without leaving any student behind no matter level of individual experience
-learn how to sequence for a peak pose without straying from the power vinyasa sequencing formula (the power yoga sequence and formula are included in your training manual)
-the 5 steps in teaching simple to complex
-how to break down a complex pose
-fine tune your cueing to excel at teaching simple to complex (passive v. active voice, you/your v. that/the, excessive jargon and filler words)
This course includes: audio tutorials, reading and written assignments; you will be required to record yourself as you teach a "simple to complex" sequence and submit the audio recording for feedback (audio recording only, video is not required)
PHILOSOPHY & ETHICS MODULE
Patanjali's Yoga Sutras ask us to turn inward through meditation and self-study with the intention to guide us towards self-realization and determining how we want to move through life. The Bhagavad Gita asks us to contemplate how we are putting our yoga into action for the greater good - to create a just world.
This module will take you deep into the study of yoga philosophy on an intellectual level. But it will also ask you to reevaluate how you apply specific philosophical principles as you navigate through life and in the world. It will ask, what is your dharma?
The 8 Limbs of Yoga in Action
This unit is designed to compliment and reinforce your online studies with yogicstudies.com. It includes 10 prerecorded guided yoga class practices that will spotlight a specific philosophical concept and a 10-week course of self-study through the use of the Yamas and Niyamas.
Each prerecorded practice includes an asana practice, mantras, and a guided meditation relevant to the philosophical focus. Through practice, you will learn how to apply yoga philosophy into your class using physical actions to help your students develop a better understanding of what yoga really is - beyond the pose.
As part of this unit, over the course of 10 weeks, you will review the Yamas and Niyamas and dig deeper into your own personal experience with them as they apply to life, both personally and professionally. You will be asked to reevaluate how you apply specific philosophical principles as you navigate through life. It will ask, what is your dharma?
Self-reflection papers are required to help explore your growth in these concepts since you were first introduced to them and to discern if and how you are putting your yoga into action for the greater good of the world.
Guided meditations with a focus on each Yama and Niyama are included to supplement your self-exploration each week. You will learn how to write and lead a guided meditation.
This course includes: required asana and meditation practices, reading and journaling assignments; you will be required to record yourself as you teach a yoga class, that includes asana and guided meditation, using one of the methods learned in this unit and submit the audio recording for feedback (audio recording only, video is not required)
